  • DofE with Sevenoaks Scouts

    20th September 2024

We are pleased that Sevenoaks Explorers are again able to offer the Duke of Edinburgh award to Sevenoaks Explorers or Sevenoaks Scouts in Year 9 that will become Explorers or young leaders.

DofE compliments a lot of what Scouting is all about and is something that is looked on favourably by universities and future employers.

We offer Bronze and Silver in Sevenoaks and will support those that wish to do Gold with Kent Scouts. Even if you have done your Bronze or Silver with school, you are welcome to participate in your Silver or Gold DofE with us through Sevenoaks / Kent Scouts.

We are also able to facilitate those that may have missed their expeditions with school and allow you to start your DofE as long as you are at least in Year 9 (bronze); Year 10 (silver) or are 16 (Gold) and also encourage those that are older and may want to start later than they would have at school

Please contact Andy and Duncan using dofe@sevenoaksscouts.org.uk if you are interested.

Volunteering with Scouting for your DofE

If you would like to complete the volunteering component of your DofE with scouting (irrespective of who is organising the rest of your DofE) please contact your nearest scout group. See sevenoaksscouts.org.uk/groups for a list.

  • Transformation

    17th May 2023

The Scout Association would like to make volunteering with Scouts easier and more fun, so we can attract and retain more volunteers to help more young people gain skills for life.

Since 2018, we’ve spoken to more than 10,000 people inside and outside of our movement. People told us we need to be more welcoming and make volunteering feel positive, so it's not like more work. We need our learning to be engaging and create useful digital tools to help get things done.

Currently, volunteering at Scouts doesn’t always suit how people want to volunteer. They want to volunteer flexibly, by committing the time they have and being part of a team.

We believe by addressing these issues it will help us to:

    • Recruit more volunteers and retain current ones
    • Make volunteering at Scouts feel rewarding for everyone
    • Consistently and safely deliver a better programme
    • Make sure that more young people are gaining skills for life
