Morris Dancing - 29-03-2009

Morris Dancing

Scouts and Explorers in Sevenoaks were treated to an evening with a difference when they were recently visited by two Morris Dancing Troops.

Hartley and Invicta Morris visited 3rd Sevenoaks weekly meeting to teach almost 50 people the traditional English folk dance.

Dressed with bells, scarves and accompanied by accordions the Morris Dancers gave the Scouts a demonstration followed by a round of applause. What everyone didn’t know is that they would be learning the complex dance sequence next!

At first, there were a few worried faces, but it soon turned to smiles with Scouts and Explorers split into smaller groups to learn the dance which involved ‘bashing sticks’. At the end, the entire group came back together to perform the dance as a whole – a great sight!

Morris DancingBefore leaving, the Morris Dancers demonstrated a couple more dances!

Certainly an evening with a difference and a lot of fun! Our thanks go to the members of Hartley and Invicta Morris!
